Snot-nosed in Scotland

Hannah came home from school Thursday with a cold.  Being one who is always eager to share, she has lovingly passed it on to Abigail and now Kent…
It is one thing for a soon-to-be 4 year old to have a runny nose, but another thing all together when it is your 2 month old.  How so much snot can [...]

Departure Date

With much excitement and also sadness we are eager to announce that we are officially returning to our homeland for good December 9!
It was quite funny looking back at the pictures we took as we were leaving the States to move here.  Lots has changed: Kent’s brain has expanded (how much $$ is that brain worth [...]

Bankrupt Bank?!?

It is always a bit unnerving when you spot your bank’s logo on the cover of every newspaper and learn:
Britain’s biggest savings bank will be rescued from the brink of collapse this morning in a deal intended to stave off financial catastrophe but likely to put tens of thousands out of work.
Thankfully it didn’t have [...]

7 weeks!

My baby is already 7 weeks old and is tipping the scales at 10 pounds 13 ounces.  I cannot believe how fast the time has flown!  It is fun to start to see her personality develop even at such a young age.  We have gotten lots of smiles from her this week, and even some coo’s (and I [...]

Kent’s Birthday Bash

We love NBC’s “The Office”!!!
My brother-in-law (Mike) got us both addicted a few years back, and I think we have never laughed so hard or watched so many of the episodes over and over again.
We were pretty excited therefore when we found out that the Strobels and the Merricks were also die-hard “Office”-ers, maybe even to a [...]

Crazy Hair Club

She’s keeping up with the fashion don’t you think?
I can’t help but laugh when people stop and ask me if I put product in her hair to keep it sticking up!  I just tell them that I pay big money to have it look like this, and so she can fit in with the 3 coolest [...]

The Queen and The Games

It is hard not to get excited about history and tradition when you are living in a place such as this, with its deeply seeded customs, ancient history, and colorful festivals.  One such festival which has been taking place for over 900 years is the Braemar Gathering, Scotland’s largest and most famous Highland Games.   Located about 1 1/2 [...]

Chicken or the Egg?!?

I have yet to see a white shelled egg in Scotland…they are only brown!  AND, eggs aren’t refrigerated here! You can keep them on the shelf for weeks without going bad.  Interesting huh?
Any suggestions as to why that may be?!?  Is it a specific breed of chicken which lays brown eggs here?  Do farmers here do something to the egg (like [...]

Diversity of Aberdeen

To some the city of Aberdeen may seem a bit dull and grey (it IS named the “Granite City” after all).  We have found while living here however, that the lack of architectural color of the city is made up for by the award-winning gardens which pepper the city, and also by the diverse population that lives here.  As you walk the [...]

Golf…Day 2

We had such a lovely evening on the golf course Monday night that we decided to go again the very next night.  This time I remembered my camera and enjoyed taking pictures of the family as we were soaking in the last of our quickly dwindling ”warm-ish” summer nights.

A few highlights included watching Kent who was practicing his game using only his 6 iron [...]
